Today Delta begins: the new media platform from Most Media Group, exploring people and places through a participatory approach. It will take shape through a website (a first glimpse of which you can find here), a newsletter, an Instagram channel and a major summit at the end of the year. Why does a project like Delta matter today? Because cities have become one of the defining questions of our time. They are places where public and private interests meet, where change is felt first, where new ideas are tested. And because we, as journalists who have followed these themes in many different ways in recent years, want to return them to the centre of the conversation and look more closely at the transformations shaping our lives.
If we asked you what cities mean to you today, many of you would probably answer: too hot, too fast, too often excluding. Delta starts from those answers. Not as a conclusion, but as a starting point: a way to look for possible solutions together. We believe the cultural and innovative energy of cities is something worth protecting, encouraging and understanding. Their tensions, their questions, their ability to generate new possibilities.
To do this, we are working alongside a scientific committee that studies phenomena such as climate change, sustainability, mobility and much more. Its work is built on constantly evolving data. Together with our Data & Tech partner Accurat, we have begun working through this information and will bring it into many of our stories. The first cities we have explored – Milan, Paris, Los Angeles, Cape Town, Medellin, Barcelona, Reykjavik, Shenzhen – are only the beginning. They open a path towards a wider journey through the issues that define contemporary urban life. We will move across countries, explore the importance of water, travel from the Ocean to Space, from Italian villages to the edges of the known world. Delta starts here. We hope you will join us.
