The departure of Guardiola from Manchester City is not simply the end of a footballing story, but something more than that. For this reason, a four-part docu-series will be released on Amazon Prime Video, which will follow Pep’s final two seasons in charge of the Citizens and what took place behind the scenes at the English club: “We are incredibly proud to announce this series, which offers a new perspective on Manchester City and goes beyond the scope of other documentaries we have produced in the past,” said Gavin Johnson, Media Director of the City Football Group.
The reference to “other series” is easily identifiable: in 2017 the club had already signed a deal with Amazon Prime, worth 11.5 million euros, to be part of the All or Nothing franchise, a cycle of sports docu-series focused on some of the biggest clubs in the world. The club’s internal production unit, City Studios, later produced two documentaries in recent years called Together: one recounts in four episodes the unforgettable 2022/2023 season, in which the Treble was achieved (Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League), the other traces the four consecutive league titles won by City between 2021 and 2024.
Guardiola has won everything that could be won in his ten years in Manchester. Perhaps even more. In total, he has collected 20 trophies: six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, five Carabao Cups, three Community Shields, one Champions League, one European Super Cup, and one FIFA Club World Cup. To give a sense of the scale of this record, City, before the arrival of the Spanish coach in the summer of 2016, had won only 17 trophies in their entire history.
Now, for Guardiola, the moment has come to turn the page, even if according to some reports he may remain out of the game for a year, waiting for a project that fully convinces him. He will then be able to watch from the sofa at home the series dedicated to him and his Manchester City, due to be released in the United Kingdom and Ireland this summer. Also produced by the club’s internal City Studios, the series is described as “the definitive account of an emotional farewell marking the end of an era in English football.”
Manchester City organised a farewell celebration for Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium on the occasion of the final home match of the season against Aston Villa. On that day, the club also said goodbye to two players who, in different ways, have marked the history of the Citizens, Bernardo Silva and John Stones. All moments that will form part of the new series on City.
