Pachuca is one of the most prestigious teams in the Mexican league and North American soccer: it has won seven championships, two Mexican cups, and a remarkable nine international trophies, including six editions of the CONCACAF Champions League – the last one in 2024. The interesting part is that we are talking about a club that represents a city and therefore a community that is anything but large, in the sense that Pachuca has a population of 267,000, fewer than the municipalities of Bari and Catania. Perhaps this is why the club has decided to involve local small businesses in ticket sales: before the Tuzos matches, the historic nickname of Pachuca players, it is possible to buy tickets at what we, in Italy, call neighborhood stores. In particular, fans can turn to, among others, a stationery store, a pharmacy, a seafood restaurant, and a driving school.
Yes, you read that right: a top-level Mexican team sells its tickets at a stationery store and a driving school. And it has been doing so for years, proudly: «We have sales points in the city and in other locations beyond Pachuca», said an internal source from the club in an interview with the newspaper Record. «We have never wanted to rule out the possibility of selling directly to our fans. And then it is a way to support these businesses: the team belongs to all members of our community, and so we work to ensure that everyone is satisfied, beyond the results on the field».

The post you see above was published by the official Pachuca account on the eve of the next home match of Liga MX, namely the quarter-finals of the postseason against Toluca. And, as can be read, all the sales points are indicated – in various locations in the state of Hidalgo, of which Pachuca is the capital – where it has been possible to purchase tickets. As mentioned earlier, there are stationery stores, a driving school, a café, and restaurants. Under the same post, there are several ironic and critical comments about the fact that some of these stores do not present a “high” image of the Tuzos, but the club has expressed its conviction to continue in this direction, ignoring what happens on social media. The team has also not engaged in this discussion: it went to Toluca for the first leg and won 1-0. And now it wants to complete the task in front of its home crowd.
